MG and YA books I read this summer

Even though I couldn't finish several books lately, I've managed to complete quite a few middle-grade and young adult novels this summer. Here are the ones I read between Memorial Day and Labor Day:

Middle Grade:
  • Gregor the Overlander books 1-6 by Suzanne Collins
  • Percy Jackson and the Last Olympian by Rick Riordan
  • When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead
  • Umbrella Summer by Lisa Graf
  • Prisoner of Azkaban by J. K. Rowling
  • Solving Zoe by Barbara Dee

Young Adult:
  • Chinese Handcuffs by Chris Crutcher
  • Catalyst by Laurie Halse Anderson
  • Shift by Jeniffer Bradbury
  • The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian by Sherman Alexie
  • Paper Towns by John Green
  • If I Stay by Gayle Forman
  • Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson
  • Prom by Laurie Halse Anderson

[I mentioned in the comments yesterday that I would have a post about what some of you have said but don't have time to write it yet. This one was written a few days back and scheduled for today. See you tomorrow.]

Whoa! You are a reading machine! Really, I am impressed by how many books you've consumed. Any favorites?

Don't forget some of these are very short books.

I liked most of them. Azkaban has the best plot twists of the three HP I've read. Enjoyed the whole Gregor series, and Percy Jackson didn't disappoint. For someone who doesn't usually read SFF, I am surprised at how much I loved these.

Wintergirls affected me a lot. It was interesting to see how one author can write a book like that and one so different, yet still very good, like Prom. I am a Crutcher and Anderson fangirl.

Goodness ... that's a lot!

Excellent list! I've only read one by Anderson, but she seems to write just about any style and time period and do it well.

Sherrie: just so you know, I read Gregor per your recommendation! Thanks!

You've been busy!! I've read stacks over summer too but would you believe NONE on your list? Some I've read before ... all the Andersons (who I LOVE) for one.

My favorites? Catching Fire, Graceling, The Amaranth Enchantment, Impossible, A Curse Dark as Gold, Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, The Magic Thief ... for starters.

Read all of Harry 6 aloud to the kids before the movie came out. And all of us got through the whole series (again) by summer's end.

It felt nice to steep in stories for a bit. Now it's back to revisions ... (sigh).

Nandini: a fellow Anderson fan! I am a bit behind on Harry :)

My daughter just finished Grace Lin's newest and she place it on my nightstand with a grin. I don't know about Amaranth Enchantment and Impossible. Will have to check them out.

You had an awesome reading summer. I'm jealous at some of the new titles you've gotten; they're just not here yet!
