The Empire State Building, shirts with sailboats, opera houses

Into the sea of pink and red, I'd like to introduce a tall grey building, the Empire State Building, as described by a poet. (Who else can make a building romantic?)

...

just as part of me fears that if you love me for my cleanliness
i will grow filthy if you admire my elegant clothes
i’ll start wearing shirts with sailboats on them

but i have decided to become a public beach an opera house a regularly scheduled flight—something that can’t help being in the right place at the right time—come take your seat

Not swoon-inducing, but I find it very real and sweet.

I am seriously not a romantic, which is why ridiculous poems like this one just fill me with happiness. I don't want the swoon to be induced, I want to swoon by myself!

This is perfect, perfect, perfect.
And absurd. Like love.

Swoon by myself: I like that!

What a wryly sweet love poem. I especially liked these lines from the first three stanzas: "a relationship based on
good sense and thoughtfulness in little things," "and to be on the safe side i wouldn’t mind if somehow i became entangled in your perception of admirable objects."

Thanks for sharing this.

I love it! Who wants to swoon when you can fly?

we’ll raise the curtain fill the house start the engines
fly off into the sunrise, the spire of the empire state
the last sight on the horizon as the earth begins to curve

Great choice, Yat-Yee. Thanks for sharing it with us. I love this off-beat look at love.

I am glad you guys like this, I wasn't sure :)

I think I'll be quoting "who wants to swoon when you can fly" often, Nandini.

(Now that I see that first comment, I know that you are the same Yat Yee I have met!)

I love the line about elegant clothes and shirts with sailboats. Now I'm thinking about scruffy sweatshirts and purple velvet smoking jackets.
