Day Two

The winner of the first contest held yesterday is: Rebecca!

She will receive one of my favorite middle grade novels, Emma Jean Lazarus Fell Out of A Tree by Lauren Tarshis. Rebecca, please send me a message on facebook or send me an email.

Enjoy.

The quote for today is:

"Maybe everyone can live beyond what they're capable of."
— Markus Zusak (I Am the Messenger)

The contest for today is:

What was your favorite book / author when you were in elementary school?

Again, if you wish to expand on your answers, please do. I am always interested in the "whys."

Since nobody tried to guess the movie quotes from yesterday, I'll include that for today as well. So, if you know the movies, please leave a comment.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by yesterday. It's so cool to "meet" other book lovers and read their blogs. *wave* Hi, blogospere friends!

(Incidentally, the Blogger spellcheck thinks "blogosphere" should be "bloodsucker.") There, there's the silly party chatter.

From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler by E. L. Konigsburg.

And, of course, Judy Blume.

Oh, and the movies. I think I've got the first three:

Show me the money! JERRY MACGUIRE

If you build it, they will come.
FIELD OF DREAMS

I'm not being ignored, am I?
FATAL ATTRACTION?

My husband probably knows them all!

A LITTLE PRINCESS, by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Why? I think because I identified so strongly with Sarah Crewe (sappy, I know...) I felt like an outsider, like Sarah in hard times--and I wanted to be her, a princess on the inside even when knows it.

Happy blogoversary!

My favorite authors were C.S. Lewis and Judy Blume. I loved the Narnia books and his space trilogy. But 'Til We Have Faces still resonates with me. Such a wonderfully written book! And Judy, well, what preteen girl doesn't like Judy Blume?

As for the movies:

Show me the money!JERRY MAGUIRE

If you build it, they will come.FIELD OF DREAMS

I'm not being ignored, am I?FATAL ATTRACTION

The station is now the ultimate power in the universe.RETURN OF THE JEDI?

I'd never hurt you, Margaret. Don't know this one!

You talkin' to me?TAXI DRIVER

I love the quote for today!

Two favorite authors pop immediately to mind. One is Roald Dahl (when I was a bit younger)--specifically James and the Giant Peach and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, both of which I reread obsessively when I was trapped at my dad's over the summer (escapism anyone???). I also loved, and still do love, Madeleine L'Engle, and somewhere I have a signed copy of A Ring of Endless Light, which was a favorite along with A Swiftly Tilting Planet.

Thanks for bringing back some wonderful reading memories!

I'm excited to be yesterday's winner! Thanks!

I tried to use the email link, but it wasn't working. Kept sending me to a blogger/google log in page.

My favorite book when I was in Middle school was a book called "My Sister Mike" by AE Walden. I think it was powerful in my life because through the course of the story it offered some genuine (and helpful) advice on becoming a person a more likeable person. I took many of the suggestions to hear, feeling that I needed improvement in lots of areas and knowing that I was lacking a "truth teller" in my life. I was just thinking about this book the other day and wondering what box it is in!

My favorite book was A Walk in Wolf Wood, by Mary Stewart.

I also loved any story about a horse!
