Free! Book! Contest! Last day!

This week has been fun. Thanks so much to everyone who's dropped by. The blog has been many things to me but the mostly, it's introduced me to a wonderful community. So thanks.

The contest yesterday was won by Corey! Just kidding. She's so sweet to feel bad for winning more than one book so I won't embarrass her any further. The REAL winner is Purple Clover! She wins two Newberry Honor/Winner books: The Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson and Olive's Ocean by Kevin Henkes.

The quote today is by Mark Twain:
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

The contest today:
You can either tell me which of the quotes I posted this week is your favorite, or share one of yours. Thanks.

Thanks for coming to my party!

Feeling really blue today, so here is my quote: Writing is an occupation in which you have to keep proving your talent to those who have none.

P.S. But your post did make me smile. I almost had a heart attack when I read that I won again :)

Hi Yat-Yee-

I enjoyed talking with you at the PPW conference. I told a friend about our conversation and we agreed: Harry Potter = worth the huge time investment, Twilight = not. :)

My favorite things to quote are The Princess Bride ("I'm not saying I'd want to build a summer home here, but the trees are really quite lovely.") and Firefly ("and...I can kill you with my brain."). But in the spirit of trying to be sort of inspirational, I'll leave you with this one:
"To invent is the essential act of human freedom."
It comes from a book on business communication by Connolly and Rianoshek, but I like to think of it as applied to writing.

As I told you at the conference, I'm not part of the "blogosphere" (yet), but I'll try to stop by and visit from time to time.

Corey: sorry to hear about your blue day. Hope you're feeling a bit better now.

Jeanne: I love Princess Bride. The dialog is so funny and smart. For a while I really wanted to go around introducing my self as Montoya and telling my new acquaintance to "prepare to die". And thanks for the "serious" quote as well. Thanks for visiting, and I enjoyed our talk at the conference. Please visit again.

I like today's quote best, but I'm a sucker for Mark Twain. I read another one recently that I like: "The most exhausting thing in life is being insincere" from Anne Morrow Lindbergh who I've rediscovered.
